The Healing Power of Nurturing Touch

Nurturing energy works like a magnet to create more of itself. Some creatures seem to have the ability to channel it at will. The feelings created by nurturing energy can transform attitudes, up level moods and shift outcomes. Unconditional loving and nurturing energy can elevate our state of being no matter where we are at that moment.  And there is nothing like touch to anchor this in our heart and in our soul.  

When we allow ourselves to fully receive this energy, we are in our authentic heart space of joy. In those moments, self- doubt, judgement, ego and worry seem to take a back seat to the present moment of giving and receiving nurturing energy.

Touch is a powerful way to create, give and receive this energy. For most of us, feeling safe is essential to be in alignment with this flow. For many people, pets offer this safety. In cuddling a pet there is no judgment, ego or lack of acceptance of your core being. The purity of the moment is blissful when this happens and can be immensely healing on every level. In essence, positive nurturing touch is an integral part of overall wellness. 

Wouldn’t it be wonderful to be able to create this nurturing, fully-expressed heart-based energy with each other without the fear of judgement or lack of self-worth? To create this “bliss bubble,” it’s important to be in alignment with the flow of the person with whom you are sharing this nurturing energy.  Misunderstandings might surface if one person sees the nurturing touch as a prelude to something else or as uncomfortable in some way. Establishing the parameters of this is important to preserve the authenticity of the intention. 

To that end, I have learned to be very selective with whom I share the energy of a nurturing touch. And I can say unequivocally that for me, being able to fully express myself and to allow myself to exhale is true bliss. The Norwegians and Danish have a word specifically for this. The word is “hygge” and it essentially means exceptional coziness. Are nurturing hugs and cuddles in a safe environment part of your life? If not, how will you move forward to create hygge for yourself now or in the near future?
