It’s a new year, which brings with it renewed hope not only for ourselves and our loved ones, but also for the world as a whole.
Perhaps the restrictions of 2020 put a damper on self-enhancement, because let’s face it, with limited socializing, certain activities can easily take a back seat.
For me, one of those things was makeup. I basically stopped wearing it.
I felt like my face was naked, and that I looked plain. But over time, my focus changed from “how I look to others” to self- acceptance in my new makeup-free reality. I didn’t feel like I needed to spend time hiding what I considered my flaws.
And it was so liberating!
When a loved one told me that my (makeup-free) eyes sparkle with a light that was absolutely beautiful, I initially brushed it off as a well-meaning placation. But it was meant with the greatest sincerity.
After decades of being sold the idea that a woman’s beauty is only skin deep, I now rest in knowing the source of true beauty is not something created for a purpose such as fitting in or confidence.
Think about this. If the eyes are indeed the windows to the soul, then a happy soul can radiate a beautifying energy that eclipses wrinkles, or bags or even sun damage.
Perhaps hard to believe, but I do believe it’s true!
Beauty radiates from the fiber of our being if we allow it to. And, although a good skin care regimen is important, believing in the beauty of your soul, and radiating it with inspired knowing can make a huge difference in how it touches and inspires others.
Undoubtedly there are days where I don’t feel beautiful at all. But knowing that there is a beauty in everyone, I turn to an affirmation that has been enormously powerful in creating my reality. It shifts the focus away from me and provides a new point of view.
This is one that I use almost daily now: “I am a mirror for the beauty I see in others.”
For me, it creates the lens of seeing the beauty in almost everyone I come across. This simple shift touches my soul and radiates from there.
Why not give it a try?
