As we move through the cycles of our lives, we experience a myriad of relationships. Some of these relationships come into our lives to teach us something we need to know in the moment. Others may come as guides for a defined period of time to move us into the next phase or level of our evolution. Others can be both and last a lifetime and sometimes, beyond. To have a special bond in full self-expression, respect and honor is a true gift.
There is a special feeling when you feel elevated and inspired in a relationship. It could be a family tie, a romantic partnership or a time-tested friendship. When you feel elevated and inspired, you are energized and uplifted. And you in turn energize and uplift in a well- balanced giving and receiving energy flow. The time passes effortlessly, and you are filled with a sense of happiness, fulfillment, and often joy. These internal feelings produce a state of calm which in turn supports the immune system and helps your body to balance and renew.
But what happens when the opposite occurs? If there is angst, arguing, anger or resentment stress becomes the main player. Cortisol is shot into your body and creates a “fight or flight” environment which can send every system in your body into overload.
Then there is the unspoken stress which is caused when one side of a relationship is giving and the other is taking without being aware of their taking. This type of stress is caused by not speaking up and sharing feelings. It’s important to share with kindness, honesty and authenticity and not blow up from years of feeling taken advantage of in that relationship.
In the end, it’s up to each of us to create an environment of wellness for ourselves by creating balance of giving and receiving in equal measure. And for certain, it’s not always a simple task.
When we feel that this is not there, and we are afraid to speak our truth, the slow burn of stress can take its toll over time. It can be emotionally draining and impact your sleep, concentration and ultimately productivity.
Where in your life do you feel that there could be more balance in your relationships? Are you comfortable with speaking your truth with kindness and authenticity? If not, why not?
Being in our authenticity ultimately starts with full acceptance of ourselves just as we are. Oftentimes we get caught in trying to be what others expect us to be. And when we move into full self- acceptance, those who truly love us will support the transition. Surrounding yourself with relationships that support your full self-expression is a major step towards energetic balance and sustained wellbeing.
